technology company in Kolkata

Introduction

Every organization has a beginning. Some begin with significant investment, large teams and elaborate infrastructure. Others begin with something more fundamental, a shared vision, mutual trust and the determination to build something meaningful together.

The journey of Notebrain belongs to the second category.

What began in December 2021 as a small partnership firm with four people operating from a modest office in Rajarhat, New Town has gradually grown into Notebrain Software and Services Private Limited, a technology company in Kolkata with a team of 16 professionals, an expanding portfolio of services and a vision that extends far beyond business growth.

Our journey has been shaped by friendship, professional understanding, resilience during the COVID-19 crisis and a shared belief that technology can create opportunities not only for businesses but also for talented individuals from underserved regions.

The Foundation Before Notebrains

The roots of Notebrains were established long before the company formally began its journey.

Mr. Sudeep Panda had previously founded an organisation named Mridaya IT Services, where Mr. Tapan Basuli, Mr. Imdadul Haque and Mr. Tanay Mitra worked alongside him. During this period, the four developed a strong professional relationship based on trust, mutual understanding and complementary capabilities.

Their association was not limited to completing projects or managing everyday professional responsibilities. Over time, they came to understand one another’s working styles, strengths, values and aspirations. This professional relationship gradually developed into a strong personal bond.

The COVID-19 pandemic tested individuals and businesses across the world. The successive waves of the pandemic created uncertainty, financial pressure, operational disruption and concern about the future. Like many other professionals and entrepreneurs, the four experienced the challenges and realities of this difficult period together.

However, the crisis also gave them an opportunity to reflect on their collective experience and future direction. Instead of allowing uncertainty to discourage them, they began discussing how their knowledge, experience and trust in one another could become the foundation of a new organisation.

These discussions gradually developed into a shared plan: to build a technology company that would deliver reliable digital solutions while creating meaningful career opportunities for deserving talent.

The Birth of Notebrains

In late 2021, the four partners decided to convert their shared vision into reality.

In December 2021, they established a partnership firm named Notebrains.

The founding partners were:

The company began with a small office at the WEBEL facility in Rajarhat, New Town, Kolkata. At that time, the organisation consisted of only four people—the four founding partners themselves.

There was no large workforce or extensive infrastructure. Each founder had to perform multiple responsibilities, including business development, client communication, requirement analysis, project planning, design, development, testing, delivery and operational management.

The early days required commitment, adaptability and long working hours. However, they also helped establish the culture that continues to guide Notebrains today: ownership, collaboration, transparency and collective responsibility.

Every project mattered. Every client relationship was treated as an opportunity to build trust. Every successful delivery strengthened the confidence of the founding team and brought the organisation one step closer to its larger vision.

Growing Alongside Our Clients

Notebrains followed a responsible and project-driven approach to growth.

Instead of expanding the team without a clear business requirement, the company gradually added resources according to project intake, delivery commitments and the skills required by its clients. This approach allowed the organisation to maintain operational discipline while building a dependable team.

As the number and complexity of projects increased, the limitations of the first office became apparent. The organisation needed a larger workplace that could support a growing team, encourage collaboration and accommodate its future expansion.

In February 2023, Notebrains reached an important milestone by shifting to a larger office at the WEBEL facility in Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata.

The new office had a seating capacity of 24 people. The move represented more than an increase in physical space. It reflected the progress the company had achieved since beginning with only four people in a small Rajarhat office.

Today, the company has a team of 16 professionals working across different technologies, business domains and project responsibilities. Each team member contributes to the organisation’s ability to design, develop, implement and support modern digital solutions.

From a Partnership Firm to a Private Limited Company

As the organisation expanded, the founders recognised the need to establish a stronger corporate structure that would support long-term growth, larger engagements, formal governance and future business opportunities.

On 2 April 2024, the business was formally incorporated as:

Notebrain Software and Services Private Limited

The transition from a partnership firm to a private limited company was a defining moment in the Notebrains journey. It demonstrated the founders’ long-term commitment to building a structured, accountable and scalable technology organisation.

The incorporation created a stronger foundation for:

  • Expanding service capabilities
  • Working with larger domestic and international clients
  • Participating in corporate and government opportunities
  • Strengthening financial and operational governance
  • Investing in new technologies and intellectual capabilities
  • Creating sustainable employment
  • Building long-term value for clients, employees and stakeholders

Although the legal identity and organisational structure evolved, the principles on which Notebrains was founded remained unchanged.

Our Motto: “Brain Behind the Byte”

The motto of Notebrains is:

“Brain Behind the Byte.”

This statement represents our belief that technology alone does not solve business problems. Behind every application, platform, automation and digital experience is human intelligence—the ability to understand a problem, analyse its context and create a solution that delivers measurable value.

For us, software development is not simply about writing code. It is about understanding people, processes and business objectives before selecting the right technology.

“Brain Behind the Byte” reflects our commitment to combining technical capability with analytical thinking, business understanding and purposeful innovation.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build Notebrains into a trusted and future-ready technology company that delivers meaningful digital solutions while creating sustainable opportunities for talented professionals.

We aim to:

  • Help businesses solve real operational challenges through reliable and scalable technology
  • Continuously adopt and develop expertise in modern technologies
  • Build long-term relationships based on transparency, quality and accountability
  • Create an inclusive workplace where people can learn, contribute and grow
  • Develop technology professionals from regions where access to specialised training and career opportunities remains limited
  • Establish West Bengal as a source of capable, dependable and globally competitive technology talent

We want Notebrains’s growth to be measured not only by revenue, team size or office capacity, but also by the opportunities we create and the positive impact we make through technology.

Creating Opportunities for Rural Talent

One of the most important purposes behind Notebrains has been to identify, train and develop resources from the rural and semi-urban regions of West Bengal.

We have focused on candidates from areas such as:

  • Bankura
  • Bishnupur
  • Purulia
  • Jhargram
  • Medinipur
  • Other neighbouring districts of West Bengal

Many talented young people from these regions have the potential to build successful careers in technology. However, they may not always have access to specialised training, professional mentorship, live project exposure or employment opportunities near their home state.

As a result, many candidates feel compelled to relocate to distant metropolitan cities such as Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai or Pune. While these cities provide significant career opportunities, they also have a comparatively high cost of living. Relocation can create financial, emotional and practical challenges, particularly for professionals who wish to remain connected to their families and hometowns.

Notebrains aims to offer an alternative.

By training and creating employment opportunities in Kolkata, we want deserving professionals from rural West Bengal to build strong technology careers closer to their homes. Kolkata allows them to remain connected to their families while avoiding many of the financial pressures associated with relocating to more expensive metropolitan cities.

Our approach is not limited to recruitment. We aim to help resources improve through:

  • Structured technical training
  • Guidance from experienced professionals
  • Exposure to real client projects
  • Understanding of software-development processes
  • Communication and client-interaction skills
  • Code-review and quality practices
  • Team collaboration
  • Continuous skill enhancement

For Notebrains, developing rural talent is not merely a hiring strategy. It is an important part of our organisational purpose.

Our Technology Journey

Technology evolves continuously, and so has Notebrains.

When we began in 2021, our primary capabilities included:

These technologies enabled us to deliver websites, custom web applications, e-commerce platforms, content-management solutions and mobile applications.

As client requirements became more diverse and technology architecture evolved, we expanded our skills and strengthened our delivery capabilities.

Our upgraded technology expertise now also includes:

Our earlier capabilities remain an important part of our technology portfolio. The addition of modern frontend frameworks, scalable backend technologies, cross-platform and native mobile capabilities, AI and machine learning, and cloud platforms allows us to undertake more advanced and complex projects.

This expanded skill set enables us to work across:

  • Corporate and business websites
  • Custom web applications
  • Mobile applications
  • SaaS platforms
  • ERP and CRM solutions
  • Cloud-based applications
  • Enterprise systems
  • E-commerce solutions
  • Workflow automation
  • Data-driven platforms
  • AI-assisted business applications
  • Machine-learning solutions
  • API development and system integration
  • Cloud deployment and infrastructure management

Our technology journey reflects a simple principle: skills that were effective yesterday must be strengthened with the capabilities required for tomorrow.

What Has Remained Constant

From a four-person partnership firm to a growing private limited company, many things have changed at Notebrains.

Our office has changed. Our team has expanded. Our technology capabilities have grown. Our projects have become more diverse, and our organisational responsibilities have increased.

However, the values at the centre of the organisation remain constant:

  • Trust among the founders
  • Mutual respect within the team
  • Accountability for every commitment
  • Transparency with clients and employees
  • Continuous learning
  • Responsible growth
  • Quality-driven delivery
  • A genuine commitment to creating opportunities

The strong bond formed during the Mridaya IT Services period and strengthened during the COVID-19 crisis continues to influence how the founders make decisions and guide the company.

Looking Ahead

The journey of Notebrains is still at an early stage.

From four people in a small office at Rajarhat–New Town to 16 professionals working from a larger facility in Salt Lake Sector V, every milestone has strengthened our belief in what can be achieved through trust, patience and collective effort.

As we look ahead, our focus is to deepen our capabilities in AI, machine learning, cloud computing, enterprise applications and scalable digital platforms while continuing to support our established services.

We also remain committed to expanding our rural-talent initiative, creating structured learning opportunities and enabling more professionals from West Bengal to build sustainable careers in technology.

Our ambition is not merely to become a larger software company. We want to build an organisation known for its intelligence, integrity, people-first culture and ability to create meaningful business outcomes.

The Notebrains journey began with four individuals, one shared vision and the courage to start during one of the most uncertain periods in recent history.

Today, that vision is supported by a growing team, stronger capabilities and the confidence earned through each challenge overcome and every project delivered.

The road ahead is long, but our direction is clear.
